CIBT SRC Holds Awards Dinner

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT) recently held its Annual Dinner, Awards, and Handover Night at the Institute’s premises at Adabraka in Accra.

The event which marked the successful tenure of the SRC President for the 2023/2024 academic year, Master Duut Patrick Miibirakua was to recognize and celebrate prominent students and staff members who have significantly contributed to the CIBT community.

Mr. Justice William Atuguba, a former justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, the Special Guest of Honour at the event expressed concerns about the current state of Ghanaian politics. He criticized the pervasive “get rich quick” mindset that has led to widespread corruption and looting.

He emphasised the importance of integrity rather than relying on protocol employment, and urged the youth to pursue entrepreneurial ventures given the scarcity of jobs in the country. He advised the attendees to be guided by the fear of God and to let their actions reflect their faith.

Justice Atuguba also swore in the newly elected SRC executives to mark the transition of leadership.

At the event, Dr. Emefa Takyi-Amoako, the Executive Director of Institutional Development at CIBT, and Chair of Oxford and Cambridge Society of Ghana launched the Oxford and Cambridge Society Mentoring Programme for CIBT students and graduates.

This initiative aims to support CIBT students and graduates in closing the gap between theory and practice, securing employment or starting their own ventures in a challenging economic environment.

The programme seeks to strengthen the relationship between CIBT and the prestigious institutions of Oxford and Cambridge, facilitating mentorship opportunities. Oxford and Cambridge alumni will mentor CIBT students and graduates, providing guidance and support for their academic, professional and personal development.

Master Duut Patrick Miibirakua, the outgoing SRC President, thanked the entire student body and staff for their support throughout his tenure. He highlighted the successful initiatives undertaken by his administration, including the establishment of the mentorship programme.

Master Miibirakua encouraged the incoming SRC executives to persist in their efforts for change and development, despite potential resistance from superior bodies. He advised them to prioritize their faith in God, lead with love, and treat everyone with respect.

As a gesture of support for the incoming SRC, Master Miibirakua presented several items on behalf of his administration including a table tennis set, a 34-inch television, a box of LED lights, a street light, and a projector.

The evening featured the presentation of numerous awards to students and staff in recognition of their excellence and hard work.
